I was just thinking cuz I mentioned The Knack in another thread and that was the 1st show I went to by myself when I was young (I went with other kids my age but there were no adults accompanying us) and made me wonder:

For those of you who are parents here, when did you or do you think you will let your kids go to a show on their own for the 1st time? How old do you think they need to be to just go with friends and no adults? To go alone even without friends?

Bob Dylan - Mick Jones

I recently read Bob Dylan's memoir Chronicles-Volume 1.

In one of the chapters, he mentions that when he was recording his album

with Daniel Lanois in New Orleans and they were thinking of which musicians

will back up Dylan, he has thought of MIck Jones of The Clash.

I wonder if Mick Jones is aware of this and if Dylan has ever contacted him for any

musical collaboration.

London Calling set for re-release in December

"The Clash have announced that they are re-releasing their classic album 'London Calling'.

Hitting shelves on December 14, the '30th Anniversary Legacy Edition' comes 5 years after the '25th Anniversary Edition' of the album was released.

Full details on how the releases will differ are yet to be confirmed, but a CD/DVD package is expected.

Meanwhile The Clash's Mick Jones and Topper Headon have been back in the studio after 27 years. The pair came together last month to record a chairty version of their 1979 song 'Jail Guitar Doors'. "

Hi out there! Does anyone know how I can get in touch with Pennie Smith? Does she have a website or something? I've tried google but haven't come up with anything.
I'm trying to see if I can interview her for a Clash project I'm working on. Her exhibit in Brooklyn starts this weekend and i though she might be in town, I'd love to try to meet up with her if I can contact her first.

The Clash - 1st Class!

the Royal Mail are bringing out a 1st class stamp with London Calling album cover on it

Postal mail just got a lot more rock n roll.

Classic album covers from The Clash, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin and Coldplay are going to be featured on British postage materials. With a nod to the art and importance of album artwork, The Royal Mail just revealed a new series of first-class postage stamps that will arrive Jan. 7th; the set of 10 stamps are a tribute to some of the U.K.s most famous album covers.

Check out the list of iconic covers that will be featured in the new stamp collection

The set of 10 stamps include:

The Clashs London Calling
David Bowies Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
New Orders Power Corruption and Lies and IV are joined by
Pink Floyds The Division Bell

In the digital age, album artwork has been mostly an afterthought; quite the opposite when the album covers aesthetic power played perfectly with the long reign of vinyl. There are still good album covers, but its not the same. Holding a CD copy of London Calling versus a vinyl copy of London Calling is an easy choice.

And in our download culture no ones holding much of anything, so the Stones Let it Bleed cover is more likely to be viewed in a Google Images search.

Got to hand it to The Royal Mail, they certainly chose an eclectic list. But thats a tribute to both the countrys wonderful legacy of music and the many talented designers whose artwork is forever linked with music history
